What will happen to my PC's video card or monitor if I do not download drivers?

cant find disk to down load new drivers for new card also card does not read on it what model it is it only reads ATI-Radieon|||Disregard most of the replies here. Windows WILL work just fine!!!! Most versions of Windows XP SP1 or later have all of the Radeon drivers built-in. Vista does as well. Most likely, Windows will auto-detect the card, and install the certified compliant windows drivers. ALL will be fine! The certified drivers are rock solid and great to use when you don't have the manufacturer's own disks. Contrary to what others may have said, Windows will NOT use the standard old VGA drivers in SP1 and above.

As for the monitor, it will also auto-detect as a 'Plug n Play' Monitor and work fine after the video card is loaded.

(You could try installing ATI/AMD's Radeon kit, which will also auto-detect within a family, but why bother???)|||you need the driver for them to work,

if you dont have the disk goto the web site type in the model# with google and find the web site the support page look for dowloads and find the driver, the download will be free

good luck|||It will not work properly.|||Some games may not play, as well as a some programs wont work.|||They may be available online.

It may scan and find them automatically.

It will not work properly if you do not install them.|||they both wont work thats all|||Your computer will use the default VGA driver. It's crappy quality but it won't hurt anything.|||Seperate one|||You need a driver for the Graphics card to operate and for you monitor to operate because it is the software for that piece of hardware.

However, there is an advantage in upgrading the drivers (I recommend by the web - you can get it from the graphics card company's website).

-there maybe settings that you can only access through an updated version of the driver.

I have a Radeon X300. The default driver was pretty fine. However, when I updated the driver to Catalyst (TM) Control Centre (the latest driver for the card), I was able to fine tune the card, such as anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing etc. Also I can set it for Optimal Performance/Quality.

Its your choice anyway. But you need the basic version of that driver at least, which you'd get with the resource CD.

If you can't find it, then download the driver from the website.

You just need to know what is the type of graphics card you got.

Like for me its ATI Radeon X300.
