Computer problem(s), video card, operating system or hard drive?

After using Google Earth 5 for a few minutes, the screen crashed and I pressed the restart button, however werid red lines and green square began to appear on the screen, is this a video card, operating system or hard drive problem? The monitor works perfectly because tested on another computer. Red lines and green boxes appear on boot up (BIOS, not OS), so what is the problem?

7. a DVD reader and a DVD writter (both IDE)|||Quote from philip

Most prbabale cause is operateing sys.

Ask your self this, if the lines comes up during bios and not OS, how the hell would it be the OS when it hasn't even loaded the video drivers?

You have video corruption sir. http://freestone-group.com/video-card-st…

This is a link to a video card stress test. Video corruption is an automatic diagnostic, but just to be sure, download this and run it.|||Most prbabale cause is operateing sys.

how to fix reinstall the operateing sys.

for more info on operateing sys visit http://www.hackerpl.webs.com|||If your machine is posting and the fans and hard drive are starting up but the screen just shows strange artifacts, I would swap out the video card first.|||Remove your video card temporarily, and see if it still does that. It should run okay on the integrated video. You might have to get into bios to change the video setup, sometimes it is automatic, sometimes not.|||Well, it obviously can't be an OS problem if it appears before the OS is loaded. Likewise, it can't be a hard drive problem if it happens before the hard drives are initialized at boot time.

If you've ruled out the monitor as the source of the problem (which I wouldn't do until I'd tried the same computer with a different monitor) then the video card is very likely the problem. Try using a different video card temporarily to check for sure; if you don't have another card, see if your motherboard has a built-in video card.|||1. Shut off system

2. Disconnect power cord from back of puter.

3. Hold power button down for 10 seconds. (purges any residual power)

4. Open computer case.

5. Remove video card.

6. make sure fan moves easily and no excessive crud (if it has a fan)

7. After cleaning replace card firmly.

8. power back up.

It may be either card wiggled loose or excessive crud as both can cause this problem.

Or worse case scenario is that the video card died, easy enough to fix...

Definitely a video card issue.|||Sounds like a video card or video driver problem. Make sure the system is not getting too hot inside when under load.

I don't really know anything at all about this, so use simple directions please! I have no idea what card I have, or if it's a good one. I am fairly good with computers, just have never needed to know about this before. My games are showing up with terrible graphics, and someone suggested I update/replace it.|||I am assuming you are running Windows XP on your laptop, so the instructions are for that operating system. Other Windows operating systems (except Vista) will be basically similar (though not the same)

1. Find an empty spot on your desktop and right-click the mouse button

2. Select Properties from the popup menu

3. A "Display Properties" window will pop up. Click on the Settings tab at the top of the window

4. Near the bottom of the window there is a button marked Advanced. Click that.

5. Another window will pop up. Click on the Adapter tab

For decent game play, you should have a mimumum of 128 MB in the 'Memory Size' slot. From here it gets subjective. In the Chip Type slot, you're looking for ATI Radeon Xpress, GeForce Go, etc. Most of these will be good for basic gaming. To get details, look in the "Adapter String" slot. The modem number of the card should be there. The lower the number, the slower the card. I.e. A Radeon Xpress 200 will barely do, while a GeForce Go 9700 would be a screamer. All depends on the kind of games you are playing.

If you see any Intel Graphic Media Accelerator (GMA) 900 or 950, that's pretty much bottom of the barrel. Not a card made for gaming.

In the end, if it's too slow for you, you need a better card. Here's the catch though: You cannot upgrade video cards on most laptops. You can put in a better hard drive, memory, on some you can change the wireless card, optical drive, etc. In only very rare cases will you be able to install a new video card.

I see a noteook upgrade in your future :-)

How to select a video card for a Dell XPS M1730?

I own a Dell XPS M1730 and wish to upgrade it's video card but I don't know how to select a video card compatible with my computer/mother board. Note: don't know which motherboard my computer has and I wish to have a list of compatible video cards to select the proper one. Thanks in advance for your help.|||unfortunately video cards for laptops are customized.

the only way to get one is either from DeLL directly or on eBay (or the like).

if you have a 8700m, an upgrade to a 8800m GTX (or 9800m GTX, but the two don't differ much) is worthwhile.

of course, getting an SLI (thus, two GPUs molded in one card, the predecessors of the GX2s & the like on the desktop) makes sense.

a new one costs 500 bucks or more...

2nd hands are cheaper but...

beware that taking a laptop apart is a little trickier then even an advanced desktop tower; again, each laptop is a custom job, having its own setup, thus you need to get a technical manual and be 200% of what & how you do it...

PS: rather then the GPU, you may also want to check if the CPU is powerful enough; the most powerful (X9000) can still cope with recent games, but if you have a slower version, upgrading the GPU may not help, as the CPU simply can't deliver the data to the GPU to precess; start the task manager before a gaming session & when in a situation where it lags, pause it & maximize the task manager; if the two cores are 100%, the CPU is probably the problem.

Is it possible to replace dell's video cards?

First, dell doesn't like other people fixing their computers, one of the ways they sell them cheap is because they weld things onto the motherboard so you have to return it to them to fix it. So, your graphics card COULD be soldered onto the mobo. Second, most notebook motherboards are designed for the graphics chipsets that they come with, instead of having a slot to easily change out the cards. Some laptops do however have a mini pci-e slot so you could switch them out. If you get by this and its possible to switch out your card I would recommend a 9800m gtx. Look at notebookcheck.net, any of the class 1 cards should be sufficient. Let me leave you with this, If your not satisfied with the performance of your computer playing games, you may want to explore other options such as upgrading ram/processors. An 8600 should be able to play most games pretty well, you may need to get an actual gaming laptop. Sorry for the long answer but good luck

How to fix iPad's video card(graphics card)?

Hi everyone, I dropped my iPad, and half of the screen doesn't work

People in the Apple store told me that the warranty does NOT cover damage, and the guy says the video card (graphics card) inside the iPad is damaged. I have to pay $350 to replace a new iPad.

So, does anyone know there is a company that could fix the video card for iPad? Please give me the contact information or website.

Thanks a lot!!|||Even if you fix it, it still won't actually do anything, but the only way to fix an ipad is with a hammer. If you're gentle enough, it will still make a good target for a .50cal. Barret.|||It would be cheaper to buy a new iPad.

My computer keeps on beeping when turned on due to video card absence but I no longer have it's video card?

My computer keeps on beeping when turned on because I think it is looking for it's old video card. I no longer have the old video card. I have a new one but when I plug it, it still keeps on beeping and the screen doesn't display anything.

The monitor doesn't display anything so I can't open the Bios set-up.

Help please on how can I resolve this?

Or is there a way to reset the bios set-up with the pc off so that it would return to using my pc's built-in video card?

Thanks.|||If the new card is not working it is possible it is not seated completely. Make sure it is fully in the bus. If that does not work just remove it and the built in should come back on.

How can I make the image on my HDTV from my computer's video card out clearer and more sharp?

I hooked up my computer to my HDTV from the signal out, and the screen is a bit blurry and not very sharp. I tried using both the S-Video out as well as component, but the picture was about the same for both. I can lower the resolution and make things look bigger, but I won't be able to use that solution for newer games that run at 800x600 minimum. The only time it looks remotely good is at 640x480, and that just won't cut it. How can I make it look like it does on my 19" monitor on the HD itself? I have an 8500gt Geforce card that is supposedly "HD Ready".|||Check to see if your video card has a "dvi" connector on it. This will be a white connector with lots of tiny holes in it. If it does, you can purchase a dvi to hdmi cable for cheap at monoprice.com. With that setup you should be able to match your tv's resolution and get a clear image.

Also note that some HDTVs have special "modes" for PC connectivity or even a DVI port (that requires a normal dvi to dvi monitor cable). Check your TV's user manual to see if a PC or dot-by-dot mode is available.|||You need to open up the settings for the video card and look for TV out and set it up there. It's off by default until you turn it on.

Can You Change The Video Card of a Desktop computer to a Laptop?

My Laptop's Video Card is really bad and my desktop's video card is the best. Is there a way to switch them or are they perminant.|||Wow! have you notices that laptops seem to be a lot smaller than desktops??

No way you could ever put something as large as a graphics card onto a laptop - plus laptops have everything integrated - meaning that you get what you buy at the store NO UPGRADES can be made in the hardware of a laptop

however this does not apply for desktops - you can always change their hardware

What's a good price range for upgrading my five year old desktop's video card?

i want to play some online games (guildwars!!!) without my computer lagging like crazy. about how much should i pay for a video card that can play guildwars/ wow? plz help!|||I play guild wars or at least I used to...

The problem may be more then your video card like what processor do you have I'd expect a pentium 4 and 512MB-1GB RAM.

If you don't have that it's not your video card.

But as for video card for a good one expect it to be about 200-300 bucks anything less then 200 will be garbage in most cases.

Is it possible to use a motherboard's built in video card right along with an add on pcie video card...?

...simultaneously for a dual monitor setup.

my current pc system's video card only has one slot for a monitor. i'm not sure if i'll buy a new one that comes with 2 dvi sockets, or just use the disabled built in video card that came along with my motherboard.|||No. If you have onboard graphics it needs to be disabled before you can use a video card.|||Currently, I have a Compaq computer with an on board nVidia Geforce card, and also a PCI-E xfx Nvidia 8600. Both can be running and work well, as long as I use the vista supplied drivers, and not the nVidia latest drivers. It's a bios setting.

How can I tell if I can upgrade my laptop's video card or not?

I have a Gateway MD7820u.|||Unless your laptop was sold as a high-end gaming laptop, the graphics can't be upgraded. Only those top end laptops with MXM card based graphics can be upgraded, and even that's not easy.

So, you can't update your laptop's internal graphics.

If you're really motivated, you can buy an external graphics card adapter and monitor that will work with your laptop's ExpressCard expansion port. It will cost you $400+, but it is technically possible, if not portable or cost effective: http://www.magma.com/pciexpress.asp|||you can't but you can check in the bios if you can allocate more memory, however if the cpu is not soldered to the board it can sometimes be upgraded and that will improve the graphic's response, if a model of your laptop is available with a better processor it may be possible|||Upgrading a laptop's video card is next to impossible. Rule of thumb: if your laptop has integrated graphics than it more than likely cannot be upgraded|||you can't, it has an integrated chip, not upgradeable

Is it possible for me to update my notebook's video card?

I want to play Age of Empires 3 but I need a 64MB video card and I only have a 32 MB video card. I looked online to buy a new video card for it but I only see video cards for PC. Is it possible to install one myself, and if so how much would a 64MB card run me? Thanks!!|||No, and this is an FAQ. Due to limited space inside a notebook, the video card is built onto the mainboard, and since notebooks don't have expansion slots, it would NOT be possible to expand / replace / bypass your existing video card.

Some of the most advanced notebooks, like Alienware and Dell XPS, MAY have replaceable video modules, but it would be specific to their particular models, and costs MUCH MORE than a regular retail video card for desktops.|||Most video cards are part of the motherboard. However, from personal experience, many video cards (for Dell Latitudes for example) are NOT. However, Dell will not sell you an upgrade. They do occasionally update the hardware, so it is possible.

You will VERY rarely find a website that will sell components like motherboards and video cards. But it is not very common as Dell would normally change the line of laptops (D600 to D610 for example). Sometimes, you will get lucky (your 750 MHz cpu goes bad and Dell sends you a 1GHz), but that is rare.

Can I upgrade my Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop's video card?

Is it possible? Or would I have to buy a brand new laptop to upgrade the video card?|||You can't upgrade video card memory without replacing the whole video card. Unless you've ordered the laptop with the card you wanted, you can't swap it out.

Unlike Desktop graphics cards, which are limited only by available slots, Laptop graphics cards are hard to find, and even harder to replace.

Laptop GPUs are not cards at all, but GPU chips soldered into the motherboard (which is why the ones with dedicated cards are said to have "discrete graphics" and others have the built-in "integrated graphics" rather than having "cards"), so as are some of the CPUs - meaning you have to melt the metal solder to even take them out. This is the way most laptops today are made. You'll have to be a real expert to be able to swap them successfully - even then success isn't 100%. Manufacturers will not take them back for an upgrade. Furthermore, your laptop motherboard chipset will not allow for you to upgrade to a discrete GPU if you ordered it with the integrated card.

Unless you have a laptop with a separate graphics unit or an MXM slot, you won't be able to upgrade/replace it. Check your manual to see if they allow any upgrades. Few laptops today allow you to do so (the Alienware line being one of the very last)

-----------

The only option you have left is to use an Expresscard-adpated graphics unit, but not yet. Maybe in the near future; right now external graphics through Expresscard is in the process of development/release.

There aren't that many for sale yet, but if you're lucky, you can find an ASUS XG Station for sale somewhere (but it won't be cheap considering its around $300 for the dock alone). You just need to have an Expresscard slot.|||Most laptops use an on-board video, with a few exceptions that are expensive to upgrade since they are proprietary (such as the dell XPS series). Keep your eye out for the ASUS XG station, an external graphics card upgrade aimed for notebooks that was at CES a year back.|||no its not, someone in the clan(on starcraft/d2/wc3) i am had the same one and he couldnt replace it it is built into the cpu|||you would buy a new laptop.

What can i do to improve my laptop's video card?

My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5332, and it's video card is intel GMA 450.. i don't know but it is something like that.and it's video graphics memory is 796mb, in performance information and tools, it's score is just 3.3 and i need 3.5 to play the sims 3..what can i do?|||(Lol, I used make all kinds of stuff for the sims). Try going to your computers support website. There should be a way to look up exactly what kind of card your machine has. Now, there may be a section there that will sell you a compatible upgrade for the video card, or you could take it into the nearest computer shop and see what upgrades are available there. If you're planning to get any of the sims games, I'd advise checking out the website: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/ It's a community that deals with fixing bugs and problems with the games that even the official patches don't deal with.|||even if you managed to put it up to 3.5 you still cant play sims3 with a decent frame rate, that video card is not suitable for gaming and don't mind looking for an upgrade because the laptop your using has no slot pciex slot and only video card you can use for that is the built-in GMA450|||You could try to recalculate your score after you have installed the latest drivers for your graphics card or after you have assigned more RAM in the BIOS of your laptop to be shared with your graphics card. If both fail to improve your score, there is nothing you can do, sorry. Since you cannot upgrade or change the graphics card of a laptop, you would have to purchase a new laptop if you wish to play The Sims 3 on a laptop.

How much will it cost to upgrade my computer's video card?

I tried to play a new game that i got as a present and when i try ed to it ,it said "device 0 cant run this title. Your video card doesn't appear to support at least Shader Model 2. Please upgrade you video card ..

so now i need to know how much it will cost to get my computer's video card upgraded ...(plz help)|||Depends on what card you choose. They can range from as little as $30 to as high as $800.

Do note that you may be required to purchase a new PSU, depending on the card you get. Some of them draw so much more power than others that not all PSUs can supply them with enough power.

What game is it? What motherboard slot connectors do you have available for a new card? They come in different flavors. From PCI to AGP to PCI Express. You'll need to know what you have in order to get the right one.|||It depends..first you have to know whats your PSU, CPU etc.|||1. decide the budget

2. check your motherboard and processor. If it using 4 core and has pci express X16 ver 2, then its safe for you to use any gpu (vga) up to $200 value. If not, use below $100. I assume your cpu not worth using $200 above card since the present gpu (vga) don't even have shader model 2.

3. Buy the max your budget can allow. (considering the budget i mention above). If you confuse choosing between what type of chipset is best value, compare the performance of your selected card through this website

http://www.hwcompare.com/10293/radeon-hd…

good luck

Good luck|||Shader model 2 is very old so any 40 pound graphics card will be able to do that. HOWEVER if you do want to be able to play newer games then be prepared to spend 80 maybe even a hundred or more pounds on a graphics card. But then it's all down to what your going to do with it.

No sound comes out of computer after I purchased a new video card?

My 3 year old computer recently died, so for christmas my parents bought me a custom built new computer. I did however keep my monitor. The new computer's video card is the Nvidia 9600 gt, and it works great, but now no sound comes out of my Viewsonic VX2835WM monitor? The sound before worked perfectly fine. We tried everything but nothing seems to work. I have a Realtek HD audio output. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED:)|||Did you reconnect the monitors audio cable to the new computer? Is it in the right connector?|||I would trouble shoot with buying a Sound Blaster Audigy SE card $30.00 from Tigerdirect.com and plug your Viewsonic into the green port. If no sound you need new speakers and spend another $50- and up ; for a set of good speekers. Dont forget the heaset $16.00 Sony MDR-G45.

How do i get my computer's video card working as well as it was again?

I just "rerolled" my comp. I forget what it's called because I'm dumb but its a step above system restore, where it basically deletes everything. Anyhow, I downloaded a driver for my video card because the computer couldn't even recognize my video card when i first started it up afterwards. Now with the driver, it recognizes the video card i have and everything, but it won't play any of the games it use to, it just goes to a black screen with the games music. Also, while going on almost any website, the screen every 10-15 seconds will freeze up for around 4 seconds, then turn black for a second, then everything will be normal again, and it keeps doing it. Thanks for the help of how to solve getting my video card back to the way it was.|||Why did you reload your computer, was it already having problems?

If so, you may have a problem with your video card.|||You should've rick-roll'd it|||ok, you reinstalled? Did you get the right driver, and update it? It would have been easier if you said what driver and updated your system specs.

Can I upgrade my system's video card?

I'm buying a computer, but I want to upgrade the video card with a NVIDIA GeForce 460 GTX or an AMD Radeon 6850. Here is the computer I plan on buying.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Is it possible that there would be any complications? I figured that if it already has a Radeon 6450, I should be able to upgrade that with a better card. I just want to be sure before I buy it.|||If you're thinking about buying a new computer and then upgrading right away, I would really just recommend buying all the parts and building it yourself, you can get better specs for less. I've never built a computer myself, but my friends have told me it's not difficult and VERY cost efficient|||As long as you have a slot capable of holding the card, enough room in the case for the card, and a PSU (Power Supply Unit) that has the appropriate plugs for the card and has enough wattage to support it, there shouldn't be an issue whether you use Windows or Linux. Just be sure to download the drivers from the chipset's manufacture's site instead of using the CD that comes with it. The drivers on the site are always the most current.

Question about this computer & it's video card?

Well I am going to buy a Dell Xps Studio 16 and the video card is a ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 3670 - 512MB. But what I want to know Is if i wanted to play some games on it would it be a good card or will it not be so powerful because it is a Mobility card. But would it be able to run CS:S, TF2, and The Sims 2 & 3 all at descent stings if you could help me figure this situation out because I would like to buy it soon since shipping as I hear takes about 1 month. If you could help me Out I would appreciate it. =D|||Yes it will definitely run those games i'm fairly confident even at full settings. As long as the rest of the computer is up to scratch.|||Can you buy a laptop with nVIDIA GPUs?? Because IMO, NVIDIA is much better as it has PhysX and CUDA, with the former being great for games and the latter being great for everyday purposes.

I see that the XPS studio 16 costs around $1700. Spend an xtra $100 and get this alienware baby. It sports a 9800M GT, which is WAY better for gaming. Although you'll get less storage, but still a great buy. Specs below.

Is it possible to upgrade a laptop's video card?

Yes depending on the model that you have, video card modules are replaceable and upgradable on laptops. However the unit will have to be completely disassembled to do so. Hope this helps. Will.|||Laptop/notebook computers architecture is very different from a conventional computers. Video and sound chips are usually integrated. However, higher end laptops can come with dedicated graphics processors, such as the Dell Inspiron E1505 and E1705, which can be bought with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 or similar. These mobile graphics processors tend to have less performance than their desktop counterparts, but this is because they have been optimized for lower power usage.|||yah i got my laptop an upgrade in video(graphic card), my friends didnt know how so i brought it to bestbuy and they did it for me

Can I change my laptop's video card and processor?

my laptop is HP pavilion dv6835nr. is it possible to change my video card?and also my processor?|||Laptop video cards are almost never upgradeable, unless you spent $3000 on a gaming laptop initially. Your x3100 integrated graphics really aren't up to game playing.

The cpu could be replaced, but only with a limited selection, which would probably only improve your performance by 25% at best.

Personally, I wouldn't try upgrading that system. It's a good general purpose laptop as is, and really can't be modified into a gaming or video editing system.|||yes it is but i recommend letting a IT person do it at the risk of messing up.. but look up your computer model and how to open it and locate the parts write it down or print it out so you have it when your working on it|||A laptop? I bought the sims 3 CD but this came up when I tried to play it:

How do I fix this? All I know is that my computer is Windows XP and it's Radeon 7000. That's all I know. Please help, and thanks in advanced to all of you who'll help.|||You go to Best Buy and ask someone to put in a bigger one. Pretty simple. You only need about a Radeon 9000.|||Holy crap. Radeon 7000??? That card is over a decade old. Your computer is a friggin' antique. Don't even bother pouring money into a video card. Get a new one. Don't bother dumping money into a faster AGP card when your system is likely running a Pentium 3 or low end Pentium 4.

And next time, try reading the system requirements beforehand so you don't go through this kind of crap.

Jack, STOP USING COMPUTERS. NOW. For one, getting advice from Best Buy is a very, very bad idea. For two, a Radeon 9000 is garbage and isn't supported by the game anyway. Stop posting if you have no clue what you're talking about. Seriously. There are enough boneheads running around this site as it is.|||1st you need to find out which slot you have, if its an agp and you can swing the price of a 3850agp card then go for it that card breathed new life into my old agp system.|||Your computer probably has integrated video with no PCI-e slot for a card that can support Shader Model 2. So if you want to play Sims 3, it probably time for an upgrade.

I'm pretty decent in the desktop field but its like a empty abyss with the laptop though... any help would be great, thankss in advance.|||No, they don't make PCMCIA video adapters. They just make video capture cards.

Since it's onboard video, it's not upgradeable without replacing the motherboard.

This is one of the biggest hazards of buyng a laptop. You always have to get the best video available because that part of it isn't changeable.

But maybe if you update the video driver it will help a little.|||Depends on how it was put together. Every Toshiba I ever owned had an integrated video card, which means no you can't.|||yes it is possible

My laptop's video card is not being found?

I have a slight issue. I recently found my Sims 3 cd, and was all excited to play it. I reinstalled the game and then when I tried to play, it read that my video card was not able to support the game. I went to a site, something like "Can you run it" and I use this to find out if I can play certain games or not and why. It reads "You Have: Intel(R) HD Graphics" as my video card. I'm a bit confused because I know I have played this game before on this same laptop. I restarted my computer and reinstalled the game again. That's about as far as my knowledge on computers/video cards will let me go.

I'm not too worried about the difficulty, just can it be done before I go trying to find an upgrade?|||If you want to change the video card, you have to change the whole motherboard. I have heard that shared graphics cards can't be upgraded as they are shared with the RAM. My graphics card is the ATi Radeon HD 3470. In the catalogue I was looking at before I bought it, it said it was 256MB Dedicated Graphics. It also says that it is not dedicated here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobilit…

So if I can upgrade it, what should I upgrade it to? I'd like it to be better than the HD 3470 as I can not play COD4 on Medium settings.

Thanks|||If you can replace it (which is tricky in laptops), go with an NVidia 8600 GT, 9500GS, or 9600GT. Those will play well on CoD4. I had a 9500GS until I went even higher than that in my desktop and it played fine

Can the MacBook video card be changed to the MacBook pro's video card or better?

I was wondering beacause I heard that the MacBook can't play video games very good with the one that it has unlike the MacBook Pro!?!?|||No. The video card for the macbook is integrated with motherboard. There is no separate video card for you to replace. The macbook borrows system RAM to supply its video RAM. So, increasing the amount of RAM in the computer will help the graphics. However, you still will not be able to play the newer, 3D intensive games (like Quake 4).|||Mac's don't have many games at all. and I think it would quite hard to install a new one. All you can really do on a laptop by yourself is new RAM. If it is possible you would have to get it sent in.

Can i upgrade my acer aspire 5585's video card?

heres the specs of my laptop

Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.0 Ghz)

Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 128 MB dedicated/256 Shared

120 GB HDD

1GB of RAM

I have read the details of my video card on NVIDIAs website and i have seen that the graphix bus technology of my video card is PCI express... is this similar to the desktop's PCI Express? its this information that gave me the idea that i can replace / buy a new video card for my laptop...|||Unfortunately no. Very few models of laptops can have their video card upgraded.

For what it's worth, the Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 is one of the nicer laptop video cards out there. You have a really nice processor too.

If you want better performance out of your computer, you can probably get another gig of ram (especially if you're using Vista). If you're running Vista, you can get a memory stick and use Readyboost too.

Laptop's Video card?

I got this from DxDiag:

Apparently i have a Intel(r) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV graphics controller.

I want to be able to play some of the latest games on this laptop. I know with the current video card it's EXTREMELY laggy on Guild Wars. On Warcraft 3 it's not so bad, but...

Well anyway i'd like to be able to play something like Oblivion or LOTR BFME2 on the computer. Ideas?|||You can use Oldblivion mods to play Oblivion...

http://www.oldblivion.com/

I don't know of any mods for any other games, though. If you want to play new games you should invest in a top of the line graphics card.|||If its a laptop, very little hope. Most laptop video cards cannot be replaced. Some(very few) of the newer laptops have replaceable video cards. Would need the make and model of your laptop to do more research.|||You can't upgrade a video card on a laptop, you are stuck with the performance you have. Reduce all the video settings on your games to as low as possible to increase speed, otherwise, start saving for a gaming computer/laptop.

Help with my new build's video card??? 8800GT?

please help me, i know for sure that my mobo and my gpu are compatible, but the system refuses to start when i plug in the video card. I tried it with the other slots, and no response still. Please help, and thanks in advance|||Did you connect a power line to the Video card? It requires its own power connector from the PSU, as well as being plugged into the board. You should have got a converter with the card, that allows you to use two molex adapters to provide the required power.

If not, just look at the card, and see if any of your power lines fit it...|||When you say refuseses to start. it sounds to me that there is not enough power being supplied to your system. you may need to upgrade you power supply unit to 600W +

Thermaltake are good psu's :)

Can I connect my wife's video card to mine using s-video?

Would i just straight connet the 2 with s-video cable i have nvidia 6800 xt and she has nvidia|||no that would accomplish nothing ... unless u have the pro versions of one of the cards with a video input .. theyre probably both outputs only ...|||What are you trying to do?

What you are talking about would not do a thing.

Repost the question with what it is you are trying to get done and we can suggest a way for you to do it.|||that sounds rly dumb. wat would that accomplish ?

Can a laptop's Video card be ugraded or changed?

Brand and model:

COMPAQ PRESARIO CQ40|||http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind…|||I just bought a new laptop today and I made sure to ask the sales guy that, because many laptops I liked only had 64 mb dedicated to graphics....a game like the Sims 3 requires 128 mb minimum to run.

The Future Shop sales guy told me it's nearly impossible to change the graphics card and it's not recommended. Very difficult and could screw things up in your computer. It saves a lot of time, effort and money to just buy a computer in the first place with the proper card, or order a custom computer with the card you require.|||Nope. The graphics card is soldered on to the motherboard. It's the only way to make the laptops that small.|||No laptop cards can be replaced they are all built into the mother board.

Can I update my Dell Xp's Video Card for Free and Without Doing anything but Downloading?

I was wondering is there anysites I can download aan update from or is that the way it works?|||just go to the dell site and go to the support page and find the drivers for your model.it's all free.|||You can update the drivers for free off Dell's support site, but that won't upgrade its capabilities; otherwise no, you can't upgrade your hardware for free (or paid) by downloading an application.

My video card has S video plug, can I just connect it and go?

My video card has a dvi, vga and s-video plugs on it, I currently have a vga monitor connected.

Can I just plug in the s-video card and plug it into my TV and see what happens? I don't know if I should disconnect the vga first or not.

Any advice is appreciated.|||Some will plug-and-play as you describe. But others need to be configured for TV output. You shouldn't need to disconnect the VGA, but you may need to enable TV out first.

Also remember that the S-Video out will be much lower resolution than your monitor. When using that output you would probably want to go with no more than 800x600.

If your video card can support dual monitors, the best thing would be to put the TV on one and the VGA on the other. This way you can set the resolution optimally for each.

Is it possible to upgrade the dell inspiron 1764's video card?

I was wanting to upgrade my laptops video card so i could play better games without them being laggy, so i was wondering if it was possible?|||Nope not a chance. Buy or Build a desktop instead.|||No.

The 1764's Graphics Chip is Integrated. It cannot be removed, or upgraded.

You need a PCI, Dedicated Card to be able to upgrade. A Laptop Graphics Card generally cannot be changed.|||Laptop computers are popular with people of all computing habits, from casual users to hardcore gamers. As more media applications such as games and movies are used by laptop owners, many people feel the need to have the video card in their laptop upgraded so that they can run the latest media and games. If you have a laptop and want to upgrade the video card, you may be able to do so.

1

Contact your laptop manufacturer to determine if laptop's video card can be upgraded. Unless you purchase a high-end or gaming laptop, the video card is usually not upgradable because it is integrated directly into the motherboard of the computer. Higher-end and gaming laptops have discrete video cards that can oftentimes be upgraded if the laptop manufacturer chose to produce an upgraded model of the video card. If the laptop is unable to have its video card upgraded, you'll have to buy a new laptop to get an upgraded video card.

2

Purchase an upgraded video card directly from the manufacturer. Laptop video cards are specially designed and made by the laptop manufacturers and are generally available only from the manufacturers themselves. You may be able to find them on auction sites or from third-party dealers, but to ensure that the card works properly with your laptop model, you should go through your computer manufacturer.

3

Find out if the card is user-serviceable or not. If it is, you will be sent the part and can install it yourself by taking apart the laptop computer, removing the old video card and putting the new one in. If not, then you may have to pay an additional fee to have the laptop manufacturer send a technician to install the video card for you.

Is it possible to replace my Latitude C610's Video Card?

I want to play other games which requires 128mb of video blah blahs. Is it possible for me to replace my notebook's video card?|||Yes it's possible to replace the video card, but there is no 128mb video card that is compatible with the C610.. You will need to buy a newer computer.|||Ususally laptops that do not have an mxm module you cannot replace the video card, dell is notorious for using proprietary hardware so there is a 99% chance that you cannot replace the video card

if your laptop has discreet graphics then the game quality would suck no matter how much memory it has anyway

You might be able to bump up the memory for the graphics card throught the bios, but it still wont make it good enough to play games

I ran the DirectX diagnostic tool to find info on my laptop's video card, need help deciphering what it means?

Ok, so i wanted to find out about my video card, the type, how many MB ect.

So i ran the Directx diagnostic tool (version 10) to find out, and i am a bit confused with some things. First off, ill show you what it said under device in display tab: (i couldnt copy and paste so i did a print screen)

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129…

So the weird thing is that when i bought this laptop (compaq presario c774) the info from the store and the HP website said i had 64mb on the video card, but it had the capability to use a 251mb card (or something like that). I dismissed this as pretty useless since you cant change video cards in a laptop, so can anyone explain what is up with that?

So basically any info regarding the type and quality of this card is greatly appreciated, but i would like an answer to this question:

For gaming purposes, should i assume my video card has 64mb 251mb?

Thanks for your help!|||You have a integrated graphics card...built into your motherboard or an external one that just has the intel logo. Either way it's not very fast..but you can game, and Direct X doesn't lie, you have a 256 mb graphics card. They only come in these.. 8.16.32.64.128.256.512.1028...ect... |||no|||yeah its gotta be 256mb.. another way to cheack... if your right click on any part of the desktop (not an icon)... you'll get a little menu, go to properties.. thats your video info... then go to 'settings'... then 'advanced'... and then 'adaptor'... |||It appeaers to be an onboard video card meaning that it is part of the motherboard, and is able to use up to 251 MB of your RAM. so it pinches your ram to do graphics on demand.

Could I upgrade my Acer Aspire 5102 WLMi's video card and processor?

-Integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 1100

-1.6GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-50

Also, what does it mean that the video card supports up to 128MB of video RAM?

Lastly, does a duel core 1.6GHz mean it's like 2 cores that are each 1.6GHz, or is the sum of two cores that totals 1.6GHz?|||just to clarify from the jump .. "ambi n n" is wrong because your computer is a laptop .. if it were a desktop, however, the power supply issue would be relevant ..

but either way, you won't be able to upgrade your video card because it's "integrated" .. which means that it's soldered onto your motherboard so unfortunately you won't be able to .. sorry ;[

what is meant by "video card supports up to 128MB of video RAM" is that you're video card has the potential to support up to 128MB of RAM if it needs it .. since your card is integrated, it uses a portion of your system RAM as dedicated video memory ..

and lastly, it means that each of th 2 cores runs at 1.6GHz

hope this helps!

-SiN|||It all depends on your power supply. If you have enough wattage after calculating how much everything else is taking then you can upgrade depending on how much power the new video card and processor take.

How important is your graphics card when doing video editing and rendering?

I need to buy a new Mac system for video editing with Final Cut Pro. I plan to edit professional-level quality projects on this machine. An iMac is much more cheaper than the Mac Pro but the tradeoff is that you can't expand it or upgrade it's video card. The vid card it comes with is decent but I'm trying to think of the long term. So my question is, how important is a video card to doing video editing and rendering, and probably some graphics work as well. Thank you!|||well the latest apple macbooks are very good in their graphics department. i have used a mac pro (early 2010) and my macbook pro (late 2009) stands pretty good against it. video card is important when it comes to rendering the movie and the exporting depending on the size and lenght of the video you are working on. but you could get any of the macbook pros (depending on your likeness of size of the laptop and budget, the bigger they are the more stuff they have) not only because you can take the laptop anywhere but because they are very strong and durable machines. ive had mine and edited movies as long as one hour and i havent had a problem. best of luck with your decision.|||I suggest to stick to the imac and as your business build up you start up grading as well. as you have seeing technology its growing so fast that its hard to keep up ( Money wise ). I started with a imac they are great machine. know i have a G5 tower but it took some time. http://uonlinetv.com

|||The graphics card isn't much of an issue with FCP. Any of them will be fine. The real issue is you are limiting yourself with the iMac in the display, memory, plug in cards, internal storage (fast disk access is far more important than the GPU). You will also be able to upgrade the processor in the Mac Pro to a 6-core: 3.2, 3.33 or 3.46GHz in a year or two for probably $500 or less.|||I'd like to recommend you buy macbook pro, video card is important for video editing

Can i upgrade my laptop's video card?

something like, i'll buy a new video card for my laptop and install it, ,

or the laptop's videocard is built-in???|||Mostly in Laptops its integrated with the motherboard as compared to Desktops, where you have slots..But there is always a way : See : http://www.pcworld.com/article/148909/up…|||Come on Joseph how can we help you if you dont tell us what youve got?

best guess is 99.9% of all laptops have the graphics card as part of the

mainboard so there aint no way of changing it, any part of it.

as the uptake of APU's grows, and gameplay becomes the main reason for

buying a laptop, then this percentage will drop rapidly, and more laptops

will come with the 2nd slot for a discrete(own board) graphics card.

hope that helps|||It is possible to buy a new video card for you laptop, but it is very hard to find one. What I know is that separate video cards for laptop are rarely marketed. You may need to go to the manufacturer of your laptop's video card's website e.g. nvidia.com.|||Yeah it's usually built in, like others have said there's a 99.9% chance that it is.

Part of the perks of having a desktop is it's usually always customizable.|||like 99% of laptops its usually built in, there are one or two exceptions, what laptop do you own?|||gff

I have a problem with my computer, i think it's video card or either my main board?

I have Geforce 256mb/fx5500 installed in my 512mb RAM, computer. after I formatted my computer and installed all the hardwares and softwares, I try to use my computer, when I was playing a highly 3D game such as World of Warcraft, RAN Online, Audition, and other games. My computer was stocking up every 10 seconds and continue to play again but after a moments it will happen again. I think my video card was the problem. But this problem does'nt happen when I used Microsoft Word, Surfing the internet and other activity. Please healp me guyz! Thank You! If you have other question for more further information, I will surely feedback! Thanks!|||You did not say if you are using Microsoft Vista or XP. If you are using Vista then yes you need more RAM at least 1 gig. You also never said how things worked before you formatted and the reasons for you to format. This is all very important information. Till we get more information from you it will be hard to answer your question. I think you have down loaded either a virus or a computer draining group of pop-ups. Pop-up ads is the price you pay for gaming on line. Not telling you not too, just a fact of life. More computer information will clear things up. Oh, if you just bought the high end Vista then you will need 2 gigs of RAM, not 1.

Edit update: Thanks for the feedback you promised as that really helps us get you your answer. Sometimes I get this feeling of spinning wheels.|||You might need more RAM|||Well, you are at the low end RAM wise and, from what I've read that Geforce video card is one of their worst and it is very old. MS Word, surfing the net, etc. do not require much in the way of system resources.... That's why they run with no problem.

A newer video card will work wonders... increase the RAM if you can.

I want to know if my old pc's video card can handle win 7.?

I have a 5 yr old pc that I want to install win 7 on. I want to know if win 7 is friendly with older pc's.

CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2.16 GHZ

1.5 RAM

320 GB

I'm just worried that the video card won't be able to handle it.|||Win7 will work on your machine, minus a few visual effects (who cares?)

hope it helps!

How do you find your computer's video card?

I want Age of Empires III. But I need a 64MB video card. My computer is a Compaq Presario V5000. And I just don't know where to find it.

Thanks,

-Bluebell|||No.

That's a laptop, and you cannot upgrade its video card. Finding it requires taking the laptop apart, and the integrated video chipset is likely soldered into your motherboard anyways. You'll need to buy a new computer if you want to play that game. That said, you do have a 128MB ATI "card", but it won't play Age of Empires III very well.|||Your laptop will have onboard video. You can't upgrade it. That's why most laptops aren't recommended for playing games.|||Since you have a compaq, which is basicly a low range laptop, not really meant for gaming, so I can tell you right now without even looking you don;t have a dedicated graphic card. You has the simple basic everyday graphic card, lucky for you though Age of Empires III is a very low range game which should be just fine on your computer.|||hit start, then run.

Type in dxdiag in the box and click enter. This shows u detailed specs about your computer, your video card will be on there.|||go to control panel, display settings advance check your accelerator driver information and it should tell you the video card memory

My PC's video card stopped rendering video?

Granted, my PC is dated (Alienware: Dual AMD Opteron 250 2.39Mhz, Nvidia Quadro FX3000 (AGP), 4 sticks Corsair 512mb DDR, Win XP), but it used to play some great games (Quake 4, HL2, Doom 3, etc). I tried updated the card to the HIS Radeon HD 2600 XT Ice Q Turbo Video Card 512MB GDDR3 to play the new stuff. The new games played, but the PC kept freezing and/or rebooting. The problem is: When I resorted back to my old card, none of the aforementioned old games worked and simple videos wouldn't render. I could hear the games, but see nothing. I tried driver cleaners and reinstalling, but nothing fixes it. Any suggestions? Or is my PC finally DOA?|||ATI Radeon™ HD 2600 XT - Specifications

Is my new bought laptop's video card really bad?

Well..I bought this laptop couple days ago..and it has mobile intel 4 series express chipset family..

I tried canyourunit.com ...with some couple of old games..

All of my requirements are okay...except the video card.

Well..I have toshiba satellite l505-ES5018

So..Whats wrong with my video card?|||Laptops (except for the gaming ones) were not made for gaming|||Nothing is wrong with the video/graphics card chip set it is the games are not compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system. The lap top listed is not a gaming lap top.|||In general any integrated video card will perform poorly, especially compared to any dedicated card from nvidia or ati. The intel 4 series should be able to handle hd video, but most new games will be out of reach. Go back 3 or 4 years in gaming history and you will have better luck.

I would like to know if its possible to my Dell Inspiron 1505 or 6400 video car. I have an ATi Mobility Radeon X1400 128MB.

I would like to upgrade to an 256 mb or if possible to 512. Please if someone can recommend me some video card. And maybe some price ranges... Thx|||Yes You Can !!!!!!!!!

Yup Most of the Time its possible, but the solution can be hard to achieve.

below website will help you with the solution, please find the model of your comptuer 1505 its mentioned in one of the exceptions . . . .

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthre…

if your computers graphic card is not builtin with CPU then you are very lucky , so you have to open your laptop and access to the mainboard of it and then you have to remove the screws for the graphic card and remove it and insert the new graphic card . . . . . which is not a simple job, you have to be expert and be very much care full and also you have to know in advance that yes my computers graphic card is not integrated ( not builtin with motherboard, then open it ) , else if its builtin then above link will give you some solutions . . .

all the best , , ,

F|||Unfortunately, the answer is no. In most laptops, the video card is soldered or attached to the motherboard and there is no way that you can remove it to upgrade. However, some of the newest laptops (by the way, i only know Sony has this so far) in the market have dual video card in their systems that enable you to upgrade it. In my own viewpoint, 512 video card in a laptop can generate too much heat that this will significantly decrease the life span of the laptop. I don't expect to see any of these either in the near future unless they install a seperate heat sink and fan for the video card.|||no sorry this can not be done|||Laptops use onboard video (built in to the motherboard) and cannot be changed

If my computer's video card doesn't have T&L cababilities, do I just have to buy a new video card?

I have a 32 mb video card in my computer, and it doesn't seem to have texture and lighting capabilities. I suppose I just have to buy a new card... Or is there some way I can DOWNLOAD texture and lighting? It probably sounds silly, but I don't know much about computer hardware. : \|||You need to get a new Graphics card.

As you use AGP. get

Nvidia Geforce 6600

Ati 9550 or 9600.

They all have hardware Transform and Lighting support as well as shader pipelines.|||Yes, Texture and lighting is hardware rendered. If you want take advantage of this capability you must upgrade. There are many cards that are not expensive anymore that support this feature. Good luck.

When using windows desktop connection does the computer you're using use it's video card for all of it?

Say I have a really powerful desktop with windows 7 ultimate and are using windows desktop connection with a laptop using vista or 7 home preimum. I'm playing a game and does the laptop I'm using use it's video card to play the game or is it streamed from my desktop|||The video is processed by your PC. The laptop is just getting the display.

The video lag you are seeing is caused by the delay on the remote connection, not by the graphics card.|||So, let me get this straight in plain english.

Are you trying to use your laptop to remotely connect to your desktop so that you can display the images through your laptop, but using the resources of your desktop to play the game?

Using Remote Desktop will use minimal resources and even if you have it running in the background, it will have no effect on a game your playing.

If you are doing something like Live Wallpaper then it may have a litle impact but it really depends on the spec of your computer and video card.

I can have three full length videos running in the background while playing Left4Dead2 on top of it without it skipping, but my desktop is pretty powerful.

How do i make my laptop's video card work?

I've got a PC video game and everytime i load it it says "Freelancer does not recognise your video card so your video output might encounter problems" and when i play some parts of the screen kinda splatter across the screen, is there anyway i can set my video card (whatever that is) to work? or change the settings or something?|||it means your video card sucks and can't handle the game.

How easy/hard would it be to upgrade the video card on a HP laptop?

I found a good deal on a DV6 model and would like to upgrade it's video card. Is this advisable?|||Impossible, actually. The "video card" is not a discrete separate card like you find in desktops. Like 99.9% of all laptops, it is a chip that is soldered to the same board as the processor, bus controllers, memory slots, etc. This board is also known as the motherboard in a laptop. These chips are not removable from the motherboard due to trying to cut down on weight, space, and also for heat issues. Only in very high-end laptops ($4000+ usually) do you find "removable" video cards. However, these are quite rare and very difficult to find, service, and get parts for, not to mention, very cost prohibitive to maintain after about a year.|||simply --u can't ---u have a laptop not a destop pc

Can I upgrade my HP laptop's video card?

Hi, I've been searching around the internet for a couple of hours now and can't find a straight answer.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 (DV6718ca) laptop without an HDMI output. I would definitely like to have an HDMI output.

a) Is this possible?

b) I have a non-integrated (according to my sketchy research) NVidia GeForce graphics card, will I have to change the whole motherboard anyway?

c) Is changing a motherboard and/or video card recommended for experts only?

Any help is appreciated!|||In most low-mid range laptops the graphics card is integrated into the motherboard. in which case the graphics card is not removable or upgradeable.

A discrete graphics card can be found in high range models and high end gaming laptops. Discrete graphics cards can be removed and in some cases they are upgradeable

in your case you have a intergrated video card and you cannot upgrade it.

You would need to have a maniboard that fits that model of laptop (which means you would end up with the same or similar board) and if you have never swapped out a board, you should let a expert do it.

Sorry|||Instead of taking out your whole mobo and changing it, you'd be far better off selling the one you have, and getting a new laptop with the video card you want. You can get some on Newegg with a Core i7 mobile cpu and a 5730 Radeon GPU for about $1000 these days|||No sorry, very VERY few laptops allow you to upgrade the video or CPU

I know the 9400 is like, attached to the motherboard or something, but is the 9600 upgradeable?|||No laptop ever made has had the capabilities of changing the video card! Where do people get the idea this is even possible?|||While the card inside the MBP is non-upgradable, there are indeed laptops that can have graphics cards updated. http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/ -- However, it's for PC based laptops that have compatible MXM slots.|||No, it isn't.|||Can't do it in a laptop

HELP! How do you update a computer's video card?

I have a Dell desktop computer, and it's video card is out of date.

I can't watch any videos online, like youtube, hulu, etc.

I'm not sure if it's a video card or driver, something like that.

It's not a laptop, its a regular desktop computer that I have in my home.

It's a very old computer, I had to start using it again because my other one crashed.

Pleasee help ! (: And if you tell me to go on a website, which one ?

I want to update it without having to pay for anything like Driver Detective. When I look up how to update it that's what comes up -__-

I just need a fast, safe, free way to update it so I can watch videos online on youtube. My TV is currently occupied by unwanted guests, so I always miss my shows..I used to be able to see them online with my other computer but this computer won't let me -__-|||I remember I had a GeForce 2 but I don´t know if it was able to play movies. You should first check if you have Java installed because it´s required to have it installed in order to be able to watch youtube videos. If the video card itself is out of date you cannot update it and solve the problem-you update a program(a.k.a. the video card´s driver) and you upgrade a computer´s component( by changing it or by modifying it).It depends on what video card you have-if it is an nVidia or an ATI one-first of all you should know the manufacturer and the model of your video card in order to start searching for the latest available drivers.Right-click on your desktop and select properties -go to settings tab and read what´s written under the monitor that appears in that window-It should be the name of your video card the search for that on the Internet followed by the word ¨drivers download¨.After downloading the drivers needed - uninstal the drivers that you have already installed and only then install the newer ones.If you´re still unable to watch Youtube videos maybe it´s time to upgrade the videocard.

Is there a way to make my computer's video card better w/o buying a new 1?

i have a b110 dell and i have the gayest video card ever [ intel Celeron D ] . is there a way to upgrade , or make the quality better w/o buying a new 1? like is tehre a download?|||not really|||up date the drivers see if that will fix it not much really|||no sorry but you can get a pretty good one 4 about 50 bucks|||If its a desktop then it should not be too hard at all. Now ifs its a laptop then your in some trouble. Things can be done for laptops but

its hell and then some more hell.

What I mean is buying a new card. Cards cost around $90 to 600 average and then the really good ones can cost upwards to $5000 or more. Even High end gaming video cards only cost around $250-$700. I would go with a card worth $120-$300 speak with people to decide what is best for you there are things you need to know and you may half to upgrade other things to properly run the card like Power supply and or Cooling force. Good luck. Note if you have a laptop then your in for some hard times trying to get a new card for it.

Note to scare you but any card over $1000 is really meant for Workplace computers and not for gaming and stuff. 90% of all the high end computer video cards are between $250-$550 average.|||No, but honestly, what do you expect for buying a bottom-line machine?

Your only avenue is to buy a decent 3rd party video card that plugs into the motherboard. Unless you need state-of-the-art (doubtful if you're using a Dell B110) you can probably get a pretty fast card on Ebay for $50.00-$100.00|||That's like saying, is there a way to make my wang bigger by really hoping. Don't be so tight, go buy a new one and watch those naughty videos in top quality|||ehh, if u can find a way to overclock it....dood, just wait fer the after-thanksgiving sales, they sell 128mb-256mb graphics card fer like...$20 (with rebate)|||You could always overclock it, but there's nothing better than getting a new one. Plus overclocking can have some consequences as well.|||Not really, the only way is to pretty much get a new video card.
