Can I change my laptop's video card to Nvidia?

How can i upgrade my TOSHIBA laptop's video card?

is there any way to upgrade a video card on my toshiba laptop? if there is, could u tell me how much does it cost? approx.. or is there anyway to upgrade it without buying new stuff? (just wanna make sure)|||You can't. Laptop graphics cards are intergrated (soldered to the motherboard)|||which tosh laptop is it? the chances are you wont be able to upgrade as most have memory which is either shared from the system memory or fixed into the card itself, youre probably better off selling it and getting one with a dedicated memory type of graphics card|||The video card of a laptop is built into the motherboard. You cannot remove the video card without practically destroying your laptop.|||Hi,

No, you can't upgrade a vido card in any laptop as it is built into the hardware.

How will i know my computer's video card and motherboard..?

well, i got these problem. my brother gave me his old desktop PC and i want to upgrade it's video card, but when i was asking him what his motherboard is he doesn't seem to know (i need to know what motherboard is installed to know what video cards are compatible with it). Is there a way on how i would know what video card is installed? please someone help..|||Just open the case and look to see if it has a PCI Express slot or AGP. If it only has plain PCI slots it most likely does not deserve a new video card.

P.S. PCI Express are normally black , AGP brown and PCI white|||That's not the main thing you should focus on, actually.

First thing is see what type of chipset your motherboard

supports for the graphics card. 16 etc.

Second, is power supply. You can't run a graphics card

on anything short of 300watts. So focus on that, or it won't

even run, and you could fry your computer. :D

Etc etc. Just look at the motherboard at the back of the

computer and see what's compatible, type in the model

number of your computer, find some reviews, and specs.

You'll soon know what type.

When You Upgrade Your Computer's Video Card What does it do?

Does it increase FPS rate when playing games?

Make a better Picture?

Or both?|||yes to both and also if your current video card is too low for the program you are using it may be using some processor speed to make up for the lack of video memory so getting a new card would also speed up your computer significantly.|||No, when you put in a better card, it makes your computer slower and gives it less capabilities. essentially, your are paying to make your computer worse. terrible investment|||It makes your graphics processing better. Does anyone know if my computer's video card can be replaced or expanded?

My computer is an HP Pavilion P6213w-B Desktop PC with Intel Pentium Processor, the video card is an Intel GMA 3100, it says the DAC type is Internal.

Does anybody know if I can replace or add a new video card? This one isn't cutting it but I've bad luck in the past with having unknowingly bought computers with little to no upgrade space.|||I'm almost 100% sure you can just add a PCI-E Video card to your system, Desktop Systems always have the option for an Upgrade.

You cant replace the existing card since it is Integrated but once you install the new one, the existing one will automatically be disabled. Just remember you will have to connect your monitor to the new card instead or the existing one, or else you wont see anything on the monitor

Hope this hepls|||Yes, you can add a 3rd party GPU. PCI-E is pretty much standard these days.

Just confirm the power requirements for whatever GPU you are going to purchase along with confirmation of what PSU wattage you currently have in the system

Something you may want to replace regardless.|||The video card currently in your computer is integrated but can be upgraded. You can purchase a video card and install it.

I really want to play Resident Evil 5 on it. Can someone help me?

My Video Card Memory is 796mb only. and can you suggest some games that plays on my video card capacity?|||Just get a ASUS laptop its a very nice gaming laptop or get a computer from digital storm or get a $500 bundle at walmart with a monitor key board mouse and computer|||I don't think you can upgrade a laptop video card, laptops are usually more compact and cause of that all the parts are built and connected all as one big part, the only things I know you can change is mainly the ram and the battery and possibly the cooling fan. I would recommend you overclock your current laptop video card but it would be too much work and can get really overheated and break your laptop. I suggest you buy a new laptop if you want to play hardcore games without breaking your computer. hope this helps|||I don't know what all that 'stuff' is above me! lol! I suggest you go to CPUID.com, and download CPU-Z,(newest version is 1.44.2 I think). Is it possible to upgrade my laptop's video card?

my laptop's video card level is not at the right level for me to play games such as resident evil 4.is there a possibility that i can upgrade my laptop's video card?|||Some new high performance laptop manufacturers are coming out with models that enable users to upgrade the video card or video accelerator it came shipped with. Unless you're one of the lucky few who have one of these types of laptops you will not be able to upgrade your video card.

If you are unsure if your laptop or portable computer is this type of computer it is recommended you contact the laptop manufacturer for additional information.|||no|||On some laptops.(the higher end ones) It is possible but for the others then no you won't be able to.|||for higher end gaming laptops

or high end laptops

some are built with mobility videocards specialy designd for the laptop

those can be upgraded

but if the ones with video graphic chipsets

i dont think those can be upgraded cause thier built in to the motherboard|||Most old laptops had onboard video cards, which meant that the motherboard had to be changed to upgrade one. Nowadays, the GPUs are standalone, mostly. They can be changed for a new one.

To find out what it is, see what model you have and post it as Additional Details. Intel Extreme Graphics video cards are onboard ones. If you have a nVidia GeForce or ATi Radeon, you can change.

Also, even if you have an onboard, maybe you can find a PCI slot in the motherboard and install the new card and then even somehow use both.|||Yes for models after 2007. No for before. But only if your laptop had a discrete card to begin with.

Did my laptop's video card just die?

I'm running an HP Pavilion dv6500 notebook with Vista as my OS.

My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

I've had this laptop for a little over 2 years now and I was playing World of Warcraft today when suddenly all the game's textures started getting pink fuzzy snow and a lot of purple blotches started appearing in the terrain.

I exit WoW and restart my comp and the problem still continues. My desktop has two green bars stretched vertically across it, and pink fuzz is flickering on my screen. When I open firefox, most pages are bright pink/purple in color.

Should I cash in for a new video card? Is it worth it? I know it will require lots of disassembly.

Oh and by the way, I updated my video drivers a couple days prior to this happening =/

Please help...thank you.|||It definitely sounds like it. HP computers are known for this problem. Check with HP if the warranty covers it (HP extended some warranty coverage because of the high failure of the NVIDIA video cards). In my opinion, it isn't worth it to buy a new motherboard to repair the computer. I would rather buy a second hand laptop off of eBay.

Good luck.|||Based on your description, the video card is going bad. You can tell when the display artifacts, or gives you vertical or horizontal colored bars. Often times, it will always be there. Meaning it will appear during the BIOS (startup) and once you reach the desktop as well.

As for whether it's worth it to go for a new video card, it all depends. If you're still within the manufacturer's warranty or have an extended warranty from your place of purchase, you can send out the laptop for repair.

Can my laptop's video card be changed?

It's a HP Pavilion dv5-1160us entertainment notebook. I need it replaced because there are these white flashing streaks across the screen and my notebook freezes...I can only get it to unfreeze by moving the screen in a certain angle, but even then I still need the pressure of my hand to get it to work! I'm not sure what the problem is so if you could give me some help with that, it would be a big help!(: But for now I think it's my video card, so can it be changed?|||I'm guessing you have an integrated Intel HD graphics chipset - NO!|||Laptop computers are popular with people of all computing habits, from casual users to hardcore gamers. As more media applications such as games and movies are used by laptop owners, many people feel the need to have the video card in their laptop upgraded so that they can run the latest media and games. Can I replace a laptop's DEDICATED video card?

I am going to buy a laptop with a dedicated video card and I was wondering if it's possible to replace the laptop's video card. Like for example the one that I want has the Radeon HD 5730 and what if I wanted to buy a separate Radeon HD 5870 and replace it, is that possible? I know that laptops with integrated graphics have their video chip as part of the motherboard, but are dedicated cards in laptops replaceable?|||I can see you know what you're talking about, but you seem to be thrown by the totally redundant adjective 'dedicated'

'dedicated' was what you added to the name ' graphics card' when integrated graphics were the norm. Only about 5 or so years ago really. A 'dedicated graphics card' is just a graphics _card_ as opposed to an integrated graphics chip. It's literally a card housing a GPU and RAM dedicated specifically to that GPU's computing needs

so, in short, you can change a 'dedicated video card' for another without too many issues.

I only have VGA port on my computer's video card How can i?

How can i change it to DVI?

I have both a DVI and VGA port on my monitor and i want to hook my computer cable into the DVI port of the monitor, and my gaming system cable into the VGA. But my gaming console is VGA and so is my computer cable.

I want to hook the computer up to DVI. How would i be able to do that?|||They make a converter, but you won't see any difference. It will still be a VGA signal. You need a video card with a DVI output to see any real difference in screen quality.|||You can buy converter cables that convert DVI to VGA, but not VGA (analog) to DVI (digital). Since you can't change your gaming system, you could buy a new video card for your PC that outputs in DVI and you'd have a solution that way.

However, even if you do that, your monitor will not actually be able to display both devices at the same time anyway. It might have some sort of auto-sensing switch inside that jumps between devices automatically as you turn them on/off, though.

You're better off spending your money on a simple "KVM switch" available at any computer/electronics store (either retail or online). http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.…

I want to update my computer's video card?

Hi, so my currently video card is Plug and play Monitor on Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family ... which is pretty bad because i got the game COD 6 and i want to play it but when i start it, it says video card can't support blabla. I've been looking for the updates and installing them but it all says its not the proper "manufacturer" blabla. So can somebody tell me where i can update it? And do you think it will make a difference for the game so that i can play it? Also i wanted to update everything on my computer, so WHAT can i update? like ram.. video and sound card... what else. THANKS.|||Well if your gonna update the Intel(R) Graphics card then visit Intel's website at www.intel.com

Next, playing COD 6 on Intel Graphics isn't a good idea. I would suggest buying a new video card. I would also suggest having enough ram(2GB+).

OR

You can buy yourself a new computer that meets the requirements of COD 6. I would suggest that when you buy the computer make sure it has at least 2GB of ram, it has NVIDIA or ATI graphics, and it has a good CPU. You can have a great graphics card, and a lot of ram, but if you dont have a good enough CPU, you cant do anything.

I am looking to upgrade my computer's video card and ran into a problem help please?

My current computer is a Hp S3500F and the only bad thing on it is the video card so i am looking to upgrade it with one, I then discovered that you would have to buy a special kind of video card and a new PSU, I then decided that i was just going to buy a new case and put the insides of the S3500F into the new case and upgrade the video card/ PSU from there. I have around $250 to spend on the computer overall and i need to know what would be the best setup for my computer and what would be compatible. So my laptop is somewhat new, I got it in August 2010.

I downloaded Steam so I could play computer games on my it, but apparently my video card sucks, it is an Intel(R) HD Graphics.

So my question is would, if connected to my TV, my laptop be able to run games that couldn't run because of my video card?|||No, connecting to a TV wouldn't help.

Your video card still won't be able to process all the images quick enough.|||If games couldn't run means video card is not supported or below requirements required by the games (read system requirement), regardless it is connected to TV or not.|||nope. It would still use the same video card. Unfortunatley it is very hard to upgrade a laptops video card in most cases.

you would be better off getting a desktop for gaming since they are much easier to upgrade

Can I change my laptop's video card?

Is it possible for me to change this and if so what would be some suggested video cards I should buy.

But you can buy an external video card via external PCIe 2.0 connector, ATI has a model of the card.|||You can't upgrade a laptop's internal video card. PERIOD

Downloading something online does not work. This a hardware limitation, not software.

There's no way of doing it.

You can however plug a PS3 into a standard PC monitor (as long as it has a DVI connection) using a HDMI->DVI adapter or cable.

Is it possible to change my desktop's video card?

My computer's video card fan is louder sometimes, how do I fix it?

I've tried cleaning it out several times with air can and it didn't help. I used the air can to dust the whole inside of the computer and still doesn't help the noise. It doesn't make the noise all the time, just sometimes. Sometimes it gets louder when I'm sleeping at night so the computer's not even doing anything at that point. Do I need to get a new video card? Should I get a fan card that would go in another slot like this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

What are my options?

Here's a link to what the fan looks like.

tinypic.com/r/i5n71g/7|||Video card fans operate at different speeds depending on the temperature of the card. If your card is more than 2 years old then I'd suggest upgrading anywayjust cuz it's about that time.

You can download free temp monitoring software (like GPU-Z) to monitor and log the temperatures to find out when it's spiking and why. It might just be that the sensor is faulty and that would mean replacement.|||You could try replacing the fan, but you may need a new video card. Check the temps of the card and see if it overheats or anything. Also run stress tests to see if it's the video card or the fan. Im not sure if that type of fan you're looking at on newegg will fit

Media Player(s), video card problem, conflict. Very frustrating!?

Here's the skinny. I have a HP Desktop Pavilion 533w 2gb Celeron, 528mb ram, GEforce 6200 vid card. The problem is I cannot play a video from file or one that I have burned to CD using any version of media player. I have tried several. I discovered that if I remove the video card and run the onboard video, everything works fine. The 6200 works for games, internet, even Windows Movie Maker. I thought that was odd. So, I am at my wits end with this issue. Yes I have the most recent graphics drivers properly installed, and I also did a system recovery complete with removal of personal files. I have no viruses. This setup was working perfectly, and suddenly it stopped. I wish I could remember what I did just before it quit. I have tried everything I am capable and aware of doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.|||One possibility is that the codec that your system is using to view the video is not compatible with the 6200 vid card. You might try to get something like Nimo Codec Pack or K-Lite Mega Codec Pack or ACE Mega Codecs.

Another is that the on-board video is still being sensed by media player as the on to use. Some MB's allow you to disable the on-board video in the BIOS.

and by the way are there external video cards that could help in a better gaming performance?|||no and no|||no. the graphics cards on laptops are part of the motherboard, so unless you want to replace your whole motherboard, you cant. and there are no eternal graphics cards that help with gaming.|||Hello

The answer is Yes and No. On some Laptop (IBM Thinkpad) You can buy a Docking station which has room for a new full sized graphics card. So in that example, Yes.

Most laptops use a integrated graphics card that is part of the motherboard so the answer is No. You will have to look up what your upgrade options are for your Laptop.

I cannot tell you unless I know what laptop you have.

One other way, is upgrade your laptop memory, then under the BIOS settings share some extra memory to your video card.

What download able software will help my computer's video card function better?

okay so, ive just bought crysis 2 on pc. its a very memory hungry game, i need a 512 mb graphics card to play it without any lagging, everything else, i have. i want to know, what software that i can download to help my graphics card function so that when i play the game, it is at least a lot smoother. just for the short term until i buy a new graphics card|||no you dont need a 512mb card. you need an ati 3850 equivalent or better.

Meaning cards around/above this: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_…

Video memory has little to do with performance. like you could get a 5450 that has 1gb. But the 5450 is a VERY low end card. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.ph…

its FAR under the requirements but has 1gb.

Anyway, to you question, no. There is no such software that can magically make you run games lol. Its all based on your hardware.

Id recommend these cards if you want to play games: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcom… (and as the price shows is about the settings you can play on. 5670 will play on low-med, 6670 should be a solid med, 5770 is high settings, 6850 would be max or close to max)|||just update your drivers.

As video games continue to evolve and continue to pump more and more polygons and require more power, you’ll find that upgrading your graphics card is a must.

Fortunately newer computers, and even notebooks, from reputable computer dealers such as Dell and Alienware, come equipped with great ATi Radeon or nVidia GeForce video cards that can usually handle anything you throw at them; they also come with a somewhat hefty price tag but at least it’s your decision as to just how much power you’re willing to pay for.

Anyway, in order to find out just what kind of video card your computer has, we need to navigate to the Display Settings area of our PC. Click the Start button and go to Control Panel. After doing so, make sure you have the default Windows Vista view selected, as opposed to the alternate Classic Windows XP View, and underneath the Appearance and Personalization heading, select Adjust screen resolution.

You should now be presented with a brand new window informing you of what kind of video card you have installed, as well as what resolution you might be using.|||Video adapter

Make sure you tell him how it happened.|||When a display adapter is having problems it can have all kinds of symptoms: crashes, hangs, freezes, graphics artifacts (display corruption), and more. If your video card is displaying some things incorrectly then you may be able to identify the problem by comparing your screen errors with examples screenshots. This page contains some screenshots of video cards which are showing different kinds of visual problems. But if your video card is crashing or hanging then it's often difficult to find the cause because so many different problems can result in the same symptoms. There's a standard set of fixes which you can try out to see if the problem goes away. If none of the standard fixes work then things get more complicated. If you're not sure what to do then you should just run through all of them. If none of them solve the problem or point out which hardware is malfunctioning then you can start making support calls or go out onto the Internet and ask for help in the support forums.

Before trying these fixes it's a good idea to create a system restore point as described here. A restore point allows you to undo software changes you make while trying to solve your video card problem.

Fix #1: install the latest motherboard chipset drivers

Your motherboard contains a CPU, some RAM, expansion slots, and various devices. But it also contains some chips which make all those parts work together. The most important of these chips are called the chipset. You need to install the chipset drivers to make sure that everything on your motherboard is working reliably and running at full speed. The chipset makers from time to time put out new chipset drivers to improve compatibility and solve stability problems. On occasion, installing display drivers or software updates (noteably installing Windows XP SP2) have been known to cause problems with chipset drivers which requires them to be reinstalled. Chipset driver problems are often responsible for crashes of AGP video cards and can affect stability of expansion slots. So if you are having any kind of problems with your display card, you should always update your chipset drivers because bad or missing chipset drivers can cause problems which have all kinds of symptoms. People often advise that you "install the latest drivers" but many forget to do it for their chipset drivers. It's relatively easy and it may solve your problem. Full instructions on how to install your chipset drivers are here.

Fix #2: uninstall your old display drivers and then install the latest display drivers

Your video card must have a display driver installed in order to do anything but the most basic drawing to the screen. If you're having any problems with your video card, one of the first things you should do is download the latest display driver, uninstall the current display driver, and then install the new driver you downloaded. This can make lots of problems disappear. There is no point in spending time trying to trace down the cause of video card problems until you've completed this initial step. Removing your old driver and installing a new one gets you all the latest bug fixes. It can also solve problems with damaged display driver installations. Even if you are already running the latest driver then you should uninstall it and then reinstall it. That assures that your display driver is installed properly and that none of it has been damaged. On occasion, you may find that your problem is solved by running an older driver rather than the latest one. Rolling back to a previous driver is more likely to help if you have an older video card, but if you want to be thorough you can also try this for newer video cards. Always remember to uninstall your current display driver before installing one. If you don't uninstall first then you can sometimes cause some pretty obscure problems. Full instructions on how to uninstall your display drivers are here and full installation instructions are here.|||A video card determines, in part, the number of colors and the resolution you can get from your monitor. These instructions will work for the majority of Pentium or newer PCs running Windows 95/98. If your computer currently has a video chip or your video card requires a change in jumpers or IRQs, installation will be much more complicated.

Shut down the computer.

Leave the computer plugged into the surge suppressor.

Disconnect all peripherals from the computer.

Remove the cover of the chassis.

Put on a grounding strap if you have one and follow its instructions. Otherwise, ground yourself by touching a metal part of the chassis.

Remove the computer's back panel if necessary.

Remove old video card. Put the new video card into that slot if it will fit physically. Skip to Step 11.

If upgrading from a PCI card to an ISA card, find an open PCI slot.

Knock out or unscrew the metal plate on slot holder on the computer's back panel.

Insert the video card gently but firmly into a slot. Don't touch any connectors on the card. Rock it into position if necessary, but don't force it.

Replace the back panel and any removed screws. Screw the video card into the slot holder if it has a screw hole.

Reconnect the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Reboot the computer.

If your monitor displays properly, the card is working.

Follow onscreen instructions to install driver and additional software. If Windows doesn't prompt you, manually complete the installation using the Add New Hardware control panel.

Adjust controls on your monitor and settings in the Display control panel.

Shut down the computer.

Replace the computer cover. Reboot the computer.

I have been trying to install a game (Sims 3) to my computer and I do not have the correct Pixel Shader required. I found out that to increase my Pixel Shader I need a new video card all together. Is it possible to purchase a video card and have it installed into this laptop? I would really appreciate any help :)

Thanks!|||Seriously, some people just don't have two wrinkles in their brains between their ears. Johna, what in the world are you talking about? What sautering?! What desktop? If laptops were such a failed model, they wouldn't be such a huge industry. And you can upgrade a laptop plenty.

UNFORTUNATELY, however, in your case Lindsey, the answer is probably no. those letters at the end of your card name IGP stand for Integrated Graphics Processor. That means that the video hardware is the part of your laptop's motherboard. Some times another version of your board may exist with better video, and other times, if the IGP card is in the chipset, there may be a chance that there's enough room for an upgrade. What you want to do is get a hold of a parts list for your laptop family (cards from other models within same family may work inside your notebook). If you see a graphics card in that list, dig deeper. Likely you won't. I have a Dell Inspiron 8500, my wife has a Toshiba Satellite P35-S611. Her laptop is stuck with whatever she has. Mine, on the other hand, I've upgraded internal WiFi, VIDEO CARD (from Inspiron 8600 parts list!), added bluetooth, replaced keyboard, and even modded a heatsink for better heat dissipation. One of the problems with video cards is that more horsepower = more heat. Most laptops are only designed for the heat they can produce with current parts list. Toshibas are notorious for overheating problems as is. Radeon 9000 IGP can't even be replaced for same, if it goes bad, unless you swap out the whole motherboard. A new 17" screen is about $100 on eBay, but if the card went bad - get a whole new laptop, and sell this one for parts. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Here's an idea: look into a DOCK solution. I've not researched it, but perhaps a dock or port replicator exists with a built-in higher quality video card. If that's the case, you won't be able to use it for your buil-in LCD, but at least you could take advantage of it on an external monitor. I know it's a very poor substitute for what you were looking to accomplish, but it is an idea worth mentioning.

P.S.: I was able to upgrade my Dell enough to install Windows 7. Satellite on the other hand can't even support Vista. Toshiba offers some big punches in the high end of their notebooks for a great price, but the construction of the laptops is unfortunately more or less permanent and not of very high quality, when it comes to heat and replacement parts. On your future laptop, go for Dell. Because most consumer Dells borrow from the industrial Latitude line, there is a vast ocean of replacement and upgrade parts.|||No, no matter what you can not upgrade the video card on a laptop, this is because they are more compact for traveling and such, it would be impossible to reach the video card without ruining the computer unless done by a professional|||No it is not posiible. MacBook's video card.?

Like my other question, I'm thinking of getting a black MacBook. Now, the video card for the notebook is 64MB. Is that sufficient enough for games such as Sims 2?! Because if not, them I'll change to get the MacBook Pro. Or is there a way to upgrade the video card in the MacBook?! Thanks!!!|||the graphics card in the MacBook is the Intel GMA 950 that is directly integrated on the mainboard and isn't upgradeable. furthermore it isn't fast enough for playing "sophisticated" games.

the MacBook Pro has the ATI X1600 graphics card with dedicated memory (128MB or 256MB, depending on the model) what is pretty much better but still not sufficient enough for hardcore gaming.

i would say it's a question of the price (the Pro costs twice as much) and it's up to you.|||The graphics card in the MacBook is the Intel GMA 950 that is directly integrated on the mainboard and isn't upgradeable. furthermore it isn't fast enough for playing "sophisticated" games.

Would this mac’s video card be ok for me?

I was looking at macs and I found this Imac:

http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Desktop-Display-MA877LL-SuperDrive/dp/B000R81W7U/ref=pd_bbs_sr_6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1215302991&sr=8-6

It has a 256MB video card and that will run all of my games. Most of my games only require 64MB and only a few of my games require a 128MB so this card will be fine for what I do now. If I buy a mac I want it to last at lest 5-10 years so I’m a little concerned about that video card because the technology in games are advancing and I can’t upgrade the video card. My favorite genre of game is strategy (my all time favorite game is civilization IV) and I don’t think strategy games will ever be considered the best in graphics. So do you think this mac’s video card would be ok for me?|||lol. 5-10 years is pretty optimistic. computer technology approximately doubles in capacity every 2 years (moore's law)

This has been true for the last 30 years.

the machine has an ati radeom 2600 pro which is a slower chipset than the 8600gt commonly considered a low end card in PC's.

If you are a gamer, this machine is really not much good as far as "future-proofing" goes.

Probably not the answer you were looking for but it would be a shame for you to spend $1200 and find its a paperweight as far as playing games in 1-2 years time.

You can get macs with an 8800gt or gs (the gt is better). this would be a better fonfiguration to look at if you want gaming longevity.|||it maybe but idk because the games r going to change so much in the next 5-10 years. you need a new computer like every 3 years now to even try to stay with the latest technology to support everything. Its just to hard to say.

Is it possible to upgrade a laptop's video card?

I'd like to be able to play better video games on my laptop. How can I do that? Do I just need a better video card?|||I've never come across a laptop with an actual card in it. They are usually shared memory and therefore there is no physical card but its actually just a chip on the motherboard.

sometimes you can go into the bios and allocate more system memory to your video chipset.

When you reboot your computer it's either f2 f7 f9 or DEL keys to get into system setup (bios) then you'll find an option for onboard video|||Most laptops have intergrated graphics, however, hope is around the corner, Most of the new laptop designs to hit the shelfs in the next year or so will be PCI-E compatable which is seriously dope. Unless you have a highend Laptop, (which means you prolly wouldn't need the upgrapde but hey) you are officially screwed.|||no, unless your laptop cost over 2000 dollars, most laptops have graphics card built in, so you can't remove it. the only way is to buy a new laptop

I really need help upgrading my computer's video card memory...?

I have Dell Dimemsion E520 with 256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE TurboCache. I want to run Maya software on this computer and the memory is way too little to run such software. In order to run Maya, I need at least 500MB to run the video card. Sorry if I messed up all the computer lingos because I don't know anything about computers. Please help and thanks in advance.|||You will need to just purchase a new video card to replace your existing one with the amount of memory already installed. There are cards out with 512 and 768MB Nvidia 8800GTS cards out. Not sure if they have one with a full 1GB out yet or not.

Also before purchasing a new card you will need to see if your computer supports only AGP cards or PCI-e cards. The latter is the newest and fastest but you should still be able to find an AGP card with 512 if that is what your computer can only support.

Also, besides the graphics card, do you have the required amount of RAM for this software. Most Maya software needs around 1-2GB of RAM with 500-2000MB of Hard drive space according to which Maya package you are wanting.

Hope this helps.|||How much ram does the computer have?|||Hardware

At a minimum, the 32-bit version of Maya 2008 software requires a system with the following hardware:

Windows and Linux: Intel Pentium® 4 or higher, AMD Athlon® 64, or AMD Opteron® processor

Macintosh®: Power Mac® G5 or Intel®-based Macintosh® computers

2 GB RAM

2 GB hard disk space

Qualified hardware-accelerated OpenGL® graphics card

Three-button mouse with mouse driver software

DVD-ROM drive

At a minimum, the 64-bit version of Maya 2008 software requires a system with the following hardware:

Windows and Linux: Intel EM64T, AMD Athlon 64, or AMD Opteron processor

2 GB RAM

2 GB hard disk space

Qualified hardware-accelerated OpenGL graphics card

Three-button mouse with mouse driver software

DVD-ROM drive

To check your pc if you meet these requirements. You can do this by following these steps:

Start Button

Run... type dxdiag

click OK button

Compare your software specs to your PC spec. Then you can pinpoint what you missed. Good luck!|||(1) Replace the graphics card with any card that will NOT use TurboCache or similar technologies. An ATI 9600 XT will do just fine. Other similar cards will also work.

(2) Add as much memory (RAM) as you can afford to add to the machine. 2 GB minimum recommended, will cost less than $100.

Per my husband who knows this stuff.|||Maya does not specify how much video ram you need, it simply must be a hardware accelerated Open GL graphics card.

The system itself should have 2GB of ram with at least 2GB of hard disk space available for installation.

Your system comes stock with about 1GB, so that's going to be a problem, and yes, your video card leaves much to be desired!

With only a PCI and one PCIe X1 slot available, your video card upgrades are quite limited.

I suggest the HIS Radeon X1550 Video Card - 256MB DDR2, PCI Express (x1), Supporting 512MB with Hypermemory, DVI, VGA, TV Out, Video Card.

Even with just the 256MB, it should do the trick at just over $100 MSRP (suggested retail)|||open your pc with the power off and unplugged, usually the side panel should come off easily.

There are 4 slots on your motherboard for ram.. with long thin plastic strips, with a binch of chips lined up....

Pull one of those out.... take it to local computer shop, and tell them you want to upgrade to buy more ram of the same type.

plug in your new ram into the slots, and you are ready to go.

Your PC can take 4GB dual channel DDR type ram, so you could buy 2 sticks, of 1GB each... or 4 sticks for a whopping 4GB ram

you have a choice of 3 ram speeds....

PC2-4200/5300/6400 DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs

the faster ram.. will cost more, but your PC will run faster.

Is it possible to change your laptop's video card ?

Okay , I have a Thinkpad T40 . The video card is a ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500 . I was wondering if I could change my video card so I can play games like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas and Fallout 3 . If you can , then also give me a name of a good video card that will let me run those games I said before . Also if you could find it at a reasonable price like at Ebay.com or Tigerdirect.com . Take note that if your give me all the information I want and it works fine , then I will place many questions so you can answer anything and automatic be best answer and get yahoo points . Thank you all !!!|||Don't care much about Yahoo points so don't try and bribe me with your evil offers.

Laptops have intergrated video cards which means it's a chip on the motherboard. These chips are soldered onto the board and only an experienced electronic technician is able to remove and replace it with a new one. The cost of doing this would be greater than buying a new laptop in many cases.. Oh maybe if you offer some yahoo points a tech may consider doing it for free. NOT

Laptops are not easily upgradable and when they are it is very expensif . So my friend the cheapest way for you is to get a new laptop with a faster video card.

I don't help computer users for yahoo points so give them to someone else who needs them to lift their egos|||It is not possible.

I want to upgrade my pc's video card but i dont the right knid to get ,agp ,pci e?

I have a sony vaio p4 2.6 radeon 9800 pro video card with 1.5 gig of ram model number pcV-rs320

i looking at this card. will this card work for my computer?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

if it does work will i need to upgrade an power supply or will it work right out of the box like plug and play?|||That ATI x1950GT consumes more than 50 watts mainly from the +12V rail. Your 9800 Pro consumes about 47 watts. If it is currently running stable, your power supply might be able to power the X1950GT also. BUT you might run your power supply's +12V rail HOT at full load.

Consider upgrading to a higher rated power supply. It should run cooler, last longer and give you elbow room for upgrades.|||I would say so but you don't have enough specs listed to truly say|||You should use AGP most computerss have AGP and the one your looking uses AGP.

Can I my Laptop's Video Card?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200-1M4.

And I wanted to change my video card. Is it even possible? Does Nvidia has a solution to my video card problem?|||Laptop Video cards are inbuilt on the motherboard, you can not change them.|||Well what's wrong with it.|||there is a card you can insert on the pci port. Look into that, but If your computer is not too old, you might just need to upgrade things, like ram.

I am very sure you can not change the video card inside your laptop, but the do have a external card.

Does anyone know if I could buy a new video card for my Compaq Presario 2100? Because it has 32mb video card and is do terrible.. id like to just purchase a new video card cause everything else is fine.|||On laptops upgrades are only possible in high end ones. Instructions how should be on the manual.|||Sorry, it can't be done, as the graphics is on the motherboard and not in a slot. You need a desktop ....

I am trying to play assassin' creed for PC but i don't meet the requirements for the game. I just need to know where to go and what to buy or download for the needed updates.|||wut requirement? DX10? if ur card r not compatible with DX10 (non-vista ready) then get urself a new card.. that game heavy dude.. u need a good card to play it.. u cant update ur shader model or video memory or video card coz video memory is VRAM,hardware not driver.. maybe ur video card only support shader 2.0 then theres no way u can play it.. shader 3.0 for XP and 4.0 for vista.. shader come with card.. also not a driver.. if u want to update it then u have to buy a new card.. thats only the way to update it..

highly my recommend,do not update ur video card driver coz its only make worst than better

Will I be able to replace my laptop's video card?

I just recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 1545. I chose to upgrade from the intergrated graphics option to a 256MB ATI Radeon HD 4330. Seeing as this isn't an intergrated card, will I be able to easily upgrade it in the future?|||I would think so, as long as the one in it now isn't soldered in. : )

"integrated"

Is it possible to upgrade the computer's video card?

I downloaded the TnL software for the video card but it doesn't seem like there has been a difference.

How do I remove my desktop PC's video card metal frame things?

Do you know what I am talking about? I am going to install my video card (NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX) into my PC's PCI-e port, but there are these two metal frames in the way. I know the card is supposed to slide into them, but how do I remove the frames? They do not have screws in them, so I'm guessing I have to push them out, right? But how should I do that? Thanks!|||beleive it or not they push vertically up and in... from the outside of the case, just apply pressure to them in an upward and inward manner and they should pop straight out. for a 8800GTX you might need to remove two of them since it's a double wide PCI card. depending on your case, you might need to unscrew two small screws that hold the metal covers in place, if this is the case, remove the two screws and THEN push the plates out of the way.

Hope this helps.|||with your fingers, since you won't be putting them back.

How can I safely and easily overclock my netbook's video card?

I want to know if there is a safe and easy way to overclock and improve my video card's performance.|||Why are you trying to OC a netbook's video card in first place? A netbook itself is a very low performance type of laptop. Overclocking it will not only do anything noticeable to its performance but will end messing up the entire thing. Starting from the fact that this are more like a cheap laptop toy you can barely do things with. Notebook and netbook are two different types of laptop.

Please help me if it can be upgraded... and to what recommanded video card.. thank you|||No, you have the ATI intergrated card and it cant be removed and replaced.

the Video card is one of the few things that cannot be upgraded on a laptop due to the manufactuer soldering the cards to the motherboards (mostly for stability, but also as a gimick to get to you buy new laptops when yours can no longer play the newest games)

Can i put a PC's video card into a different PC?

a windows vista video card (my windows vista is broken and i thought i should just salvage it!) into a windows XP!

(so i wont have to keep playing old games on my windows xp!)

if not, i don't care. i can just but like a 20$ one!|||Yes you can. Video cards are nothing more than a detachable component. You can easily swap them out and reinstall a new one. If it's broken then buy a new one and you shouldn't have any problems... Just as long as you know how to navigate through your PC's internal structure.|||Your video card shouldn't be tied to your operating system. You may or may not be able to transfer it based on the available slots in the older PC, and whether or not it is compatible with the older PC's motherboard and other components.

But to answer your question, the operating system will not prevent you from upgrading the graphics card.|||As long as the video card is removable and not onboard and the old computer has the same slot.
