Play .Avi with dvd player? S-video card to tv?>?

Ok so i've been tring to get this stupid s-video/vga card working forever now and im getting no where. The monitar works in it and it shows two monitars hooked on to the pc. But nothing comes on my tv. I had to buy a svideo-rca because me tv dosn't have an s-video out. Could this be why? Is it the adapter?

Another thing is, im sure you know you can fit 10x more .avi movie files on a dvd/cd than actually durning a movie in dvd format on a dvd. Is their anyway to get the .avi to play in the dvd player?|||I always burn avi to dvd with Total Video2Dvd , very easy to use, work on home dvd player
